How Office Chairs Can Affect Your Back Pain

If you already suffer from back pain, did you know that your office chair maybe adding to the problem? It's true. Your office chair may not be helping your back problem at all. In fact a low quality office chair can actually be causing more damage to an injured back. Office chairs can cause an increase in pain in the neck, back, arms and shoulders. As a matter of fact the way some office chairs are constructed, they can and extra pressure to an already aching back, and add extra stress to the spinal discs.

Most people who use office chairs and sit for a prolonged period of time will tend to lose their posture and slouch or slide down into the chair. This is not good for those who suffer from back pain. Actually it is not good for someone who has no back pain. This is because this type of action stretches the spinal ligaments and in turn strains the discs found in the spinal column. This type of behavior over time can damage spinal structures and even calls major problems in the lower back.

It is advised that those with back pain use an ergonomic chair at the office or at home on the computer. An ergonomic chair helps you to maximize the support your back proceeds and to ensure that you maintain proper posture while in the sitting position. Proper posture while sitting can greatly ease back pain in most individuals. What you buy an ergonomic chair, make sure that you adjust it properly so that it fits your body. By properly adjusting the chair you can ensure it does not add to your back pain. Let everyone else in the household know they are not to adjust your chair after you have it adjusted to your own body. Let them know that this chair is to reduce your back pain while you work, and it is important that it stays the way you adjust it.

Another thing you should do when you have back pain is to ensure that every 30 minutes you get up and stretch your back and legs. The sitting for too long is not good for your back pain. It would be even better if you could walk away from your computer for about five minutes to completely limber up your back muscles. You could always walk to the restroom or get a drink of water. Walking is one of the best things you can do for your back. It helps to get blood circulating all over your body including your back. You will find that walking will help ease your back pain.

If you find is still sitting in an uncomfortable office chair, then for the sake of your back pain, you should invest in a better office chair for your use. As a general rule, the more expensive an office chair is the higher the quality of product that you get.
